Consumer Prices and Inflation Continue to Rise Due to Jen Kiggans and Donald Trump’s Policies
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Associated Press today reported that the Federal Reserve’s inflation gauge rose to a three-year high in May as Virginians continue to struggle with rising inflation and energy prices.
According to the Commerce Department, consumer prices rose more than 4% in May from last year, marking the largest annual increase since April 2023. The Associated Press reports “the increase was largely driven by more expensive gas, as well as pricier semiconductors and other computer equipment that are in high demand.”
“Corrupt Jen Kiggans and Donald Trump promised to lower prices on day one. Instead, they have continually squeezed Virginia families by driving up inflation and raising prices on everything from health care and housing to gas and groceries while giving tax breaks to their billionaire donors,” Rep. Luria said. “Working families should be able to get ahead, not just barely get by. I will fight every day in Congress to lower costs for the Virginians who are being left behind by Jen Kiggans and Donald Trump.”
Jen Kiggans has established a pattern of promising Virginians one thing in public, only to turn around and vote the other way in Washington. She voted repeatedly to keep Trump’s cost-spiking tariffs in place, despite the fact that they have cost the average American household $1,700 more. Kiggans also voted twice to continue Trump’s Iran war, even as a report found that grocery prices spiked last month at their fastest rate in four years and inflation reached its highest level in nearly three years due to the war. As gas and energy prices spiked, Kiggans removed parts of her campaign website focused on the cost of gas and the affordability crisis impacting Virginians.
Kiggans lied when she promised to protect access to health care, only to turn around and vote for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history. Kiggans lied when she said she would extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits, but then voted to allow health care premiums to skyrocket. Kiggans lied again when she promised to protect clean energy tax credits, but then “flip-flopped” and voted to take a “sledgehammer” to the credits instead. Kiggans has voted 100% of the time with Donald Trump – demonstrating that she puts her D.C. party bosses ahead of the Virginians she claims to represent.
Kiggans was a major proponent of DOGE even as the agency wrecked Virginia’s economy and hurt veterans. Local media reported that “Kiggans embraced the program from the outset” and even said DOGE was “so necessary.” It has been reported that Kiggans’ backing of DOGE led to “the termination of more than $8.3 million in grants and leases tied to the district, including funding streams connected to veterans services and facilities.”
