Elaine for Congress Campaign Statement Ahead of WTKR Debate: Scott Taylor Must Address Ongoing Election Fraud Investigation, Staffer Convictions

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Elaine for Congress campaign released the following statement before tonight’s WTKR debate between Congresswoman Elaine Luria and disgraced former Congressman Scott Taylor.

“Tonight will offer a clear contrast between the hard work and integrity of Congresswoman Luria and the partisan divisiveness of failed career politician Scott Taylor,” said Campaign Manager Veronica Ingham. “Scott Taylor has a lot to answer for — whether it’s the investigation into allegations of election fraud by his campaign or his repeated votes to take away health care from tens of thousands of constituents, voters deserve to hear why he decided to betray their trust and put his own interests above those of Coastal Virginians.”

Two of Scott Taylor’s staffers have pleaded guilty to election fraud charges while a third awaits trial on October 29. With at least one more indictment expected per the special prosecutor, the investigation into the Taylor campaign’s unlawful efforts to get a third party candidate on the ballot in 2018 has now lasted longer than his time in Congress.

“Coastal Virginians deserve honesty and integrity from their elected officials. Scott Taylor has consistently fallen short of that standard and, after tonight’s debate, voters will be reminded of why they rejected Scott Taylor in 2018, in favor of Congresswoman Luria.” concluded Ingham.

Congresswoman Elaine Luria represents Virginia’s Second Congressional District, which includes all of Accomack and Northampton Counties, the cities of Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, as well as portions of Norfolk City, Hampton, and York and James City Counties. Congresswoman Luria serves on the House Armed Services Committee where she is Vice-Chair of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee and on the House Veterans Affairs Committee where she is the Chair of the Disability and Memorial Assistance Subcommittee. In 2018, Elaine Luria flipped VA-02 from a Republican incumbent and is a current Frontline incumbent.
