VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Congresswoman Elaine Luria released the following statement regarding this evening’s Republican primary results in Virginia’s second Congressional district:
“Be good, do good work: that philosophy has guided me throughout my Navy career and service in Congress,” said Congressman Elaine Luria. “I remain committed to serving Coastal Virginians and advocating for the issues that matter most to them. That’s why I am fighting for quality and affordable healthcare, and to ensure that our servicemembers and military families have the resources they need and that veterans receive the benefits they’ve earned.”
A proven, principled leader, Congresswoman Luria has delivered results for Coastal Virginians. Out of all 435 members of Congress, Congresswoman Luria was ranked the third most effective legislator, having introduced four bills that became law and was in the top 8% of House Freshman with legislation that had the most bipartisan support.
Congresswoman Luria’s opponent, Scott Taylor, voted to take away our health care, raised taxes on the children of fallen soldiers, and orchestrated election fraud.
“Scott Taylor doesn’t have Coastal Virginia’s best interests at heart and his record reflects that. Taylor voted to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions, gave the wealthiest a tax break on the backs of the middle class, and missed critical votes,” said Campaign Manager Veronica Ingham. “The last thing Virginians need is a failed Congressman who focuses on Twitter fights while trying to sweep his election fraud scandal under the rug.”
Additionally, the investigation into allegations of election fraud committed by Taylor and his campaign is far from over. Richmond Circuit Court Judge Gregory Rupe initially cited Taylor staffers Lauren Creekmore, Heather Guillot, Roberta Marciano, Rob Catron and David Bohner as culprits who intentionally attempted to defraud the Commonwealth. As a result, one conviction directly related to the activities of staffer Lauren Creekmore was announced by the Special Prosecutor and a second Taylor staffer, Roberta Marciano was indicted this May, she is scheduled to appear in court on September 24.
Congresswoman Luria enters the general election with $2.6 million in her war chest, while Taylor reported $261,000 on hand.
Congresswoman Elaine Luria represents Virginia’s Second Congressional District, which includes all of Accomack and Northampton Counties, the cities of Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, as well as portions of Norfolk City, Hampton, and York and James City Counties.
