Today, Congresswoman Elaine Luria’s reelection campaign announced an updated debate and forum schedule based on Scott Taylor’s failure to respond to local organizations. The Luria Campaign released their original debate schedule on August 19th in the hopes that the Taylor Campaign would agree to speak with a wide variety of constituents.
“Scott Taylor declined forums hosted by both the Williamsburg League of Women Voters and Citizens For A Better Eastern Shore, and he has not returned calls from the Virginia Beach Chapter of NAACP and the Virginia Beach Interdenominational Ministers Conference,” said Campaign Manager Veronica Ingham. “Just like 2018, this is another prime example of Scott Taylor skipping out on doing the work and listening to our communities. The voters of Virginia’s Second Congressional District deserve better.”
Congresswoman Luria’s campaign released the following debate schedule as of Monday September 21st:
– A forum hosted by the League of Women Voters on October 7th, which will continue without Scott Taylor.
– A televised debate hosted by WTKR (Channel 3) on October 20.
– A debate hosted by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce on October 22.
In 2018, Scott Taylor dropped out of a televised debate hosted by WHRO amid his campaign’s election fraud scandal and refused to participate in any debates that were not ticketed events. Taylor’s campaign is still under investigation with another staffer scheduled to appear in court this Thursday.
Congresswoman Elaine Luria represents Virginia’s Second Congressional District, which includes all of Accomack and Northampton Counties, the cities of Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, as well as portions of Norfolk City, Hampton, and York and James City Counties. Congresswoman Luria serves on the House Armed Services Committee where she is Vice-Chair of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee and on the House Veterans Affairs Committee where she is the Chair of the Disability and Memorial Assistance Subcommittee. Congresswoman Luria was recently named one of the most effective members of Congress by a 2019 GovTrack Report Card, passing the third most laws of any Representative in the U.S House. In 2018, Elaine Luria flipped VA-02 from a Republican incumbent and is a current Frontline incumbent.
