VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — This past weekend, Congresswoman Elaine Luria’s campaign hosted a Day of Service to give back to our communities by volunteering with nonprofits throughout the district.
“It is more important now than ever that we come together to support those most vulnerable in our community,” said Congresswoman Luria. “This weekend, I had the opportunity to support and tour the Samaritan House in Virginia Beach, an organization that plays a crucial role in providing a safe haven for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.”
The Day of Service was hosted by the campaign to empower Congresswoman Luria’s supporters and volunteers to come together and give back to our Hampton Roads community. Over sixty volunteers throughout Virginia joined the initiative by volunteering at local non-profits, cleaning local waterways, raising funds for the NAACP legal fund, and donating supplies to the Samaritan House alongside Congresswoman Luria.
Campaign volunteers were excited to share the experiences from the special day. “As a volunteer for the Medical Reserve Corp, I had the opportunity to serve at the Southeastern Foodbank,” said volunteer Mary Crozier of Norfolk. “I was impressed by the organization and capacity of the Foodbank. Collectively, within 3 hours, we compiled over 500 boxes of food for needy families!” Volunteer Holly Edwards of Virginia Beach added, “During these uncertain times, our district needs a servant leader more than ever. I am proud to be a part of a campaign team that prioritizes giving back to our community.”
Congresswoman Elaine Luria represents Virginia’s Second Congressional District, which includes all of Accomack and Northampton Counties, the cities of Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, as well as portions of Norfolk City, Hampton, and York and James City Counties. Congresswoman Luria was recently named one of the most effective members of Congress by a 2019 GovTrack Report Card, passing the third most laws of any Representative in the U.S House. In 2018, Elaine Luria flipped VA-02 from a Republican incumbent and is a current Frontline incumbent.
