Many voters have reached out to me today regarding a new ad from Scott Taylor and I wanted to address it. I find it shameful and disappointing that on the anniversary of 9/11, as our community prepares for a major hurricane, Congressman Taylor would release such a trivial, tasteless and blatantly false attack ad.
Today I reflect on where I was seventeen years ago – standing watch supervising the overhaul of two nuclear reactors on an aircraft carrier in Norfolk Naval Shipyard after having just returned from a 6-month deployment to the Middle East. My fellow sailors and I did not know what America’s response would be to these horrific acts of terrorism, but we were ready to put the ship back together and be part of that response. I spent the next 16 years serving our nation, deploying an additional four times, and as a Commanding Officer of a combat ready unit, sending many sailors into harm’s way. I didn’t expect, on this solemn day of remembrance, that I would also have to respond to this absurd, childish TV ad. Congressman Taylor has made it clear through his actions and those of his staff that this type of shameless politics is routine for him.
What I learned in that Navy is when you are in charge, the buck stops with you. Congressman Taylor needs to stand up and stop trying to shift the blame. We deserve better than this from our representative.
