As Primary Field Narrows, Diverse Group of Local Leaders Announce Support for Elaine Luria in 2nd District

April 11, 2018

VIRGINIA BEACH – Today, Elaine for Congress released a diverse list of 45 local leaders supporting Elaine Luria in her campaign for Congress in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. With a set primary field, these community members are coalescing around Elaine because they see her as a leader who shares their values and the values of our community, and because they believe she is the strongest candidate to take on Scott Taylor in November.

“For the tough decisions that Congress will face in the coming years—from international relations to military funding, I am convinced that Elaine Luria is the right person to represent the Second Congressional District,” said community leader Jody Wagner. “Her leadership experience in the Navy, business experience since leaving the Navy, and her role as a mother will all help her represent us well.”

“I am proud to endorse Elaine Luria for Congress. She is a U.S. Naval Academy Graduate with twenty years of active duty experience that has prepared her to continue her commitment to serve as our Representative for the second district. Elaine’s proven leadership makes her extremely qualified to ask for our vote. She has mine,” said Virginia Beach Civic Leader Pearl Smith.

“Elaine’s experience as a civic league president, small business owner, and veteran make her uniquely qualified to represent her constituents in Washington,” said Norfolk City Councilmember Martin Thomas. “I have enjoyed working with her not only as an elected official but also in the many philanthropic efforts she supports.”

These men and women represent an array of backgrounds and leadership positions, including health care experts, educators, and military leaders, and represent the strongest showing of community-level support in this race to date. The full list of endorsers can be viewed here.
